Test Drive Unlimited 2 is an open world racing game in the Test Drive series, and the second entry in the Test Drive Unlimited sub-series. The game allows players to drive a variety of cars and motorcycles around recreations of the Hawaiian island of Oahu, which returns from the first game in a refreshed form, and the Balearic island of Ibiza, which is new to the series.
It was soon followed by its sequel, Test Drive Unlimited 2 in 2011. A third game and soft reboot, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, is currently under development (with KT Racing and Nacon replacing Eden Games and Atari, respectively), which will release in 2023.
On the Xbox 360, new cars could be downloaded via Xbox Live, similar to Project Gotham Racing 3 and 4's Booster Packs and Midnight Club: Los Angeles's South Central vehicle packs. Some individual cars were available to download for free, while others were paid purchases as part of a pack. All downloaded cars still need to be purchased with in-game money at their respective dealerships before they can be used in the game. There were eight car packs and eight free cars.
There is also a downloadable mode called \"hardcore mode\" which makes the game experience more realistic. It was designed for players with an Xbox 360 Racing Wheel controller. The hardcore mode is free however in the Windows version, and can be unlocked by achieving a higher specific rank.
There were 1500 total beta testers in Atari's closed beta for Test Drive Unlimited for PlayStation 2. At the end of the testing period, Atari awarded 30 of the most active testers with \"immortality\" in the PlayStation 2 version of Test Drive Unlimited. These 30 beta testers were allowed to name one of the non-playable characters (NPC) in the game. Some chose to use their first and last name; others chose to use their screen names. These 30 special NPCs can be found spread throughout the virtual island of only the PlayStation 2 version.[2] Atari and Melbourne House ensured the Beta Testers were given prominent positions as NPCs. Among the play testers were also friends and family of staff at Melbourne House, including staff members themselves, who are included within the different motoring clubs featured within the game. Most were granted President or Vice President status in the car clubs and were put in highly desirable performance cars.[3]
A community of game modders have created a \"Platinum Edition\" mod with over 880 cars, physic tweaks, HDR weather, and various updates. This is for PC only and can be downloaded for free. *Reference needed.
Test Drive Unlimited 2 (TDU2) is a 2011 open world racing video game developed by Eden Games and published by Atari for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is the sequel to the 2006 game Test Drive Unlimited and the nineteenth entry in the Test Drive series and was released on 8 February 2011.
The Player character is a poor valet driver working in Ibiza for Tess Wintory, host of the 2011 Solar Crown, a highly popular racing championship. Tess berates the Player for arriving late; she considers firing them, but seeing as they are a car enthusiast, she has second thoughts, and asks them to escort her to the Sant Antoni de Portmany club, in exchange for entering them in the Solar Crown. On the way to the club, Tess explains one of the racers withdrew, leaving an open position for the player. Tess herself is also a contestant in the championship, and enrolls the player to dampen the competition.
Throughout the game, the Player earns their way up the ranks of the championship. They can use money earned from races to buy houses, cars (which are needed for certain races) and clothes from dealerships and stores around the islands. The other contestants of the tournament will also challenge the Player in one-on-one races, putting their beloved cars on the line. After reaching a moderate status in the competition, the championship moves to Oahu.
At release, the game suffered from a series of reoccurring bugs, particularly on PC, which can seriously affect gameplay, and which prompted the studio to disable the multiplayer functionality due to connection and server issues.[20][21] General issues included: server blackouts, repeatedly dropped connections, inability to add friends in-game, and many other advertised online features malfunctioning or not functioning at all. Several patches have been released to resolve the issues,[22] as well as several free or fee-based downloadable content packages and individual items (i.e., new missions, cars). The initial download is free but the virtual vehicles carry a real-world cost in the form of in-game 'tokens' obtainable for real money. For the PC version of the game, the price was set at 80 Atari tokens each, and the smallest amount of 'Atari tokens' available for purchase is a bundle of 400 tokens for US$5.

I have a rather unusual problem with my Xbox 360 controller and TDU2. I can play with my Logitech Steering Wheel Perfectly fine, but I cannot take that to University, everytime i go into the game select car etc. I cant even drive because everytime i press the accelerate trigger and it crashes. Its the same everytime, and im really out of ideas, I really dont want to use the keyboard. Some help would be appreciated.
That is a wicked error. Only other option I can recommend is to uninstall and reinstall the game. I would test the controller as soon as the install finishes, without patching or changing anything else.
Andreas, according to the research that I did across a lot of message boards when this was first put together- people could manually get the wheel setup somehow but not have force feedback. Whether this means they edited game files, downloaded a key mapping program, etc, I do not know.
Open-world gaming has become a powerful commercial force in the industry today, with many iconic IPs ditching their tried and tested gameplay formulas to try and get a piece of the success, including famously linear franchises like Sonic, which announced an upcoming open-world game titled Sonic Frontiers. Unfortunately, this has led to numerous lackluster releases that shoehorn in an underwhelming open world for marketing and advertising purposes. Still, when an open-world game is done right, it can create a fantastic gameplay experience for the player that is hard to top.
When people think of open-world gaming, they tend to imagine action-adventure games and RPGs. Although these genres do indeed dominate the open-world market, there have also been a handful of fantastic racing games over the years that take place in enormous game worlds that players are free to drive around and explore. The following games on this list all struck gold with excellent driving mechanics, interesting events, and tantalizing open worlds that are begging to be explored.
Need for Speed Heat is the latest game in the series and a pretty great one at that. It's clear that the developers, Ghost Games, learned from their work on the past few NFS games and went all out in a bid to try and modernize the series.
BeamNG.drive is a racing simulation game that is an absolute joy to play. Crashing a car in this game is more satisfying than frustrating because of how realistic and fun the damage mechanics of the car really are.
The user-made content ensures that players will be able to sink a ton of hours into this game. BeamNG.drive might be one of the more hardcore games on this list, but players who get into this title will have a great time indeed.
Test Drive Unlimited 2 was developed by Eden Games and released in November 2011 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The game featured a stunning open-world for its time based on the real-life island of Oahu, which is the third-largest Hawaiian Island, as well as the Spanish island of Ibiza. Along with the fantastic world design, Test Drive Unlimited 2 also impressed fans and critics with its wide range of vehicles on offer, with asphalt cars, off-road vehicles, classic cars, and motorcycles all available to drive.
The Crew 2 was released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in June 2018. The game differentiates itself from most other racing games with the variety in vehicle types on offer, as along with a plethora of cars and motorbikes to choose from, players can also drive boats and planes. The goal of the game is to become a success in the four vehicle disciplines: Pro Racing, Street Racing, Off-Road, and Freestyle.
Along with its open-world, EA's Need for Speed: Underground 2 stood out with its stellar customization options, the story-driven campaign that was presented through comic strip-style cutscenes, and its memorable soundtrack. As for the racing itself, Need for Speed: Underground 2 had a great range of different game modes for players to choose from, including Drag Racing, Drifting, Circuit Race, and Street X mode, where four racers compete in tight, narrow tracks. 59ce067264
